Co-owner Mike Brooks, an ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) Certified Master Technician and Volvo Certified Master Technician, has more than three decades of experience working on Volvos. In addition, Mike has the knowledge and skill to address any type of repair on most other makes and models of cars. Co-owner Tracy Brooks, with nearly three decades in the auto repair industry, is likewise extremely knowledgeable about auto repair and maintenance. Tracy is an ASE Certified Service Advisor and a Volvo Certified Service Advisor. Tracy answers your mechanical questions, offers guidance regarding your car’s needs, and provides you an easy-to-understand estimate of costs. Our shop is sparkling clean, we have a clean and comfortable waiting room, free Wi-Fi, a clean restroom, and always a warm greeting and smile!

We are proud to be a Certified Green Business through the Monterey Bay Green Business Program. We were the first business to be Certified Green in the city of Seaside. We strive to be conscious of our impact on the environment, and we joyfully take part in protecting the planet and our beautiful Monterey Bay.
By going through the process to become a Certified Green Business, we became more aware of our everyday actions and our carbon footprint. We have incorporated green practices such as using soy-based products, from auto lubricants to hand soap. We have switched from a solvent parts-cleaning tank to a hot water detergent tank. Whenever appropriate, we install good used parts on customers’ vehicles.
We keep our shop floor and parking lot free of leaks and spills at all times, so that no toxic substances flow down the storm drains and into the Monterey Bay. We encourage our customers to fix any leaks in their vehicles and to keep their cars maintained so as not to put excessive tailpipe emissions into the air.
We recycle all metal, glass, cardboard, and paper. We recycle any recyclable plastic, and we increasingly avoid single-use plastic. We also use recycled paper products.
We will continue to do everything we can to ensure that our auto repair business is as environmentally responsible as possible. Green practices are a wise investment in our future, and the future of the earth.

Tracy Brooks
Tracy Brooks is co-owner with her husband, Mike Brooks, of Hans Auto Repair.
Tracy is an ASE Service Advisor, certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. She is also an expert Volvo Service Advisor, certified by Volvo, and is highly regarded in the Monterey Bay region and beyond as a trusted authority on Volvo service.
Since 1992 Volvos and Volvo customer care have been Tracy’s career focus. Her experience ranges from shop management and administration to hands-on service and repair of Volvos, as well as other makes and models of cars.
In 2004 Mike and Tracy took over Hans Auto Repair, acquiring the business from previous owner, Hans Ericksson. Prior to 2004, Tracy was employed by Volvo dealerships on the Monterey Peninsula for two years and by a Volvo repair shop in Santa Cruz for nearly nine years.
Some people feel intimidated when communicating with an automotive shop, whether because they lack knowledge about their vehicle, or because they’ve had a poor experience with a shop in the past. Tracy loves to change that, facilitating their transformation into confident, relaxed, happy long-term customers of Hans Auto Repair.
Tracy empowers customers by truly listening as they express their car-care concerns, by providing plain-language explanations of automotive issues, and by helping them set priorities for maintenance and repairs. Tracy’s professional knowledge and extraordinary customer care have won the respect and appreciation of customers who’ve now used Mike and Tracy’s shop for many consecutive years, for all their maintenance and repair needs.
Mike Brooks
Mike Brooks is co-owner with his wife, Tracy Brooks, of Hans Auto Repair.
Mike graduated from Wyoming Technical Institute in 1989 with certification in Automotive Technology. After graduation, he immediately began his now more than thirty-year career of working on Volvos on the Monterey Peninsula. Mike started in 1989 as an employee of Scandia Volvo and was next employed by Larry Menke Volvo and Peninsula Volvo Service. In 2004 Mike and Tracy took over Hans Auto Repair, acquiring the business from previous owner, Hans Ericksson. Mike is an ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) Certified Master Technician, a Volvo Certified Master Technician, and a State of California Certified Smog Technician. With more than three decades of experience working on Volvos, Mike also has the knowledge and skill to address any type of auto repair on most makes and models of cars.
Mike listens to customers’ concerns, pays close attention to details, and prioritizes any and all necessary maintenance and repair. Mike’s extraordinary mechanical expertise has the well-earned respect and confidence of customers who’ve now used Mike and Tracy’s shop for many consecutive years, for all of their service needs.
Phil Northrup
Phil Northrup is an employee and highly valued team member at Hans Auto Repair since October 2016.
In 2005 Phil graduated from the Universal Technical Institute’s Volvo Technician Training Program with a certificate in Volvo Service Automotive Factory Education (SAFE). Phil is an ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) Certified Technician and a Volvo Certified Master Technician.
Following his graduation from UTI, Phil’s first fifteen years of working as an automotive technician included working in Volvo dealerships and independent shops in the San Francisco Bay Area as well as on the Monterey Peninsula. Tracy and Mike Brooks are proud to have Phil on the Hans Auto Repair team, contributing his own solid knowledge and abilities in the shop alongside Mike.
